About the art
'What was Then' Painted by Tif Choate as a response to a call for art in her thriving artist community in Lafayette, CO. She photographed Barbara Baer's sculpture 'Light Fall' late at afternoon when sunlight reflected through the piece onto the pavement. She then painted her interpretation into this abstract impression titled 'What Was Then'. As Tif began her work, she imagined couples strolling through the small towns full of delightful and colorful shops and restaurants, thriving small business owners all enjoying the beauty of the Colorado sunset and the amazing and quirky local art scene
The artist call is a harkening for the community to create. See & Respond is an invitation to check out the dozen and more sculptures placed throughout the Old Town thoroughfare; encouraging those to walk, to ride or drive. The viewers are encouraged to respond creatively, including painting, photography, fiber, poetry, etc. For a year, selected artworks are displayed at the Lafayette Public Library. A fundraising reception culminates in a gala at the library with hors d'oeuvres from local restaurants, beverages for sale, live music and an Arts and Poetry Award Ceremony. Public Arts Community of Lafayette, a group of volunteers and art leaders and liaisons with the city in the community, champions, plans and finances this program.
